Data Modeller - Data Governance
Job Description:
The Data Governance Data Modeler will work within the Data & Architecture to model data relating to critical business processes and regulatory reporting requirements, as required under the Data Management policy. Data is modelled and defined consistently within the Business Information (HBIM) framework. The role reports to a Data Governance Manager within the Data & Architecture.
The Data Management policy contains high-level principles for best practices with regards to Data Management. It is supported by Data Management procedures and Data Management operational instructions. Responsibility for implementation and compliance to the policy lies within the respective global business or global function with support and guidance provided by Group Data Utility within the Data & Architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Create and review data models as required under the implementation of the HSBC Data Management policy
- Extend and maintain the HSBC Business Information Model (HBIM) based on business, industry and regulatory requirements
- Create & maintain a Business Data Glossary by defining data held within HSBC using the HBIM
- Communicate and promote the use of the HBIM across business lines
- Maintain HBIM alignment with financial industry standard data models (e.g. BIAN)
- Review HBIM entries and feedback accordingly
Experience & Skills:
Essential:
- Experience of data governance and other data management activities
- Good knowledge of industry standards and regulations on data management (i.e., DCAM, BCBS 239, etc.)
- Experience in managing the work of others to deliver against demands
- Experience in managing data governance demands and delivery of data governance services
- Skilled at driving and executing a high-volume process – completer/finisher mindset
- Problem solver with ability to find practical solutions and prevent delays
- Influencing skills, able to gain support and buy in from stakeholders
- Strong communicator with excellent oral and written skills
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency with JIRA
- Collibra and Informatica
Desirable:
- Good knowledge and understanding of semantic / conceptual modeling and its role in data governance i.e. Semantics of Business Vocabularies and Business Rules (SBVR), UML Class Models, etc
- Experience with Data Governance platforms such as Collibra or Informatica etc
- Process improvement / simplification experience desirable
